About

“Meti në Shqipëri” is my Peace Corps Albania Weblog. “Në Shqipëri” means “in Albania.” A “shqiponjë” is an eagle, and from this comes “Shqipëri,” Land of the Eagles.

“Meti” is what some people call me here. Unlike Mateo or Матвей, which are transliterations of Matt, Meti (Medi) is actually short for “Ahmed” or “Mohammed.” But it sounds like my name, so I’ll take it.

I’ve been serving Albania as a PCV since March 2007. I’m now living in the second largest city, Durres, on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. My primary assignment will be the local university, and in the meantime I’ve been doing some work for the archaeological museum, for Peace Corps program development, and I’ve been giving teacher training workshops.

Check out the photo at the top of this page. This is looking south from Durres toward the south side of the bay. My apartment is the second one from the right, closest to the camera.
